Missing Letters Generator · Step-by-step guide
Create a missing-letters worksheet with clues
Choose words and clues, set how many letters to hide, and print a matching worksheet and answer key with Missing Letters Generator.
Open the app →Use Missing Letters Generator to make spelling worksheets. Learners read a short clue and fill the missing letters in a partly visible word. You can print the worksheet and its matching answer key without an account.
1. Choose the words and clues
Select Word language (English or Bahasa Indonesia) and a Word source:
- Automatic selection: use the built-in word-and-clue bank. Set Minimum letters, Maximum letters (2–20), and Questions (automatic only) (1–20).
- Choose words: search the built-in words or clues and check up to 20 words. This mode uses every word you select, not the automatic question count.
- Custom words & clues: enter one
WORD: cluepair per line, such asAPPLE: A fruit that grows on trees.Add 1–20 unique words, each 2–20 letters long, with a clue of 1–180 characters. Fix any displayed input issues before generating.
The language menu in the header changes the interface language separately from the built-in word language. Custom words and clues use the text you enter.
2. Set difficulty and a repeatable seed
Choose Difficulty:
- Easy: hides one letter per word.
- Medium: hides about one third of the letters.
- Hard: hides about half of the letters.
At least one letter remains visible in every word. Enter a Seed · repeat a worksheet value if you want to reproduce the same word selection and missing-letter positions using the same source and settings.
Add a Worksheet title if you wish. Choose A4 or US Letter, and Portrait or Landscape.
3. Generate and review
Select Generate worksheet. Each question displays its clue and a word with blank letter positions. Use New random seed to make another version.
Switch on Show word bank to display the intended answer words as hints on each worksheet page. Include answer key is on by default; leave it checked for matching solution pages.
A clue might fit more than one word. The answer key shows the intended word from the selected bank or your custom list, not every possible answer.
4. Print or save a PDF
Select Print / Save PDF and check your browser's print preview. Match the paper size and orientation selected in the generator. Pages are split to fit their clues and questions; longer content may mean fewer questions per page. When enabled, the answer key includes corresponding solutions.
For a PDF, choose your browser's Save as PDF or equivalent print destination, if available.
5. Reuse your worksheet safely
Changing paper size, orientation, word-bank display, or answer-key display does not pick new words. To apply changed word selection, difficulty, or seed, select Generate worksheet again.
This generator does not save worksheets between browser sessions. Print or save your finished PDF before closing or reloading the page. Your custom words and clues are processed in your browser and are not uploaded.
